We visited Rome when I was 12 years old. I remember how hard it was to try and imagine what the complete picture would've been with so little to go on. Now, as an adult, it's sort of inverted: you get close to a column like these, see their mathematical and technical perfection, and you instantly know that whatever the whole thing was would've been utterly staggering to behold.
