Displayed at the Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum (Kitchener, Ontario, Canada), this 1820-era washtub and hand-cranked mangle illustrate the physical labour of early laundry. Before electric machines, women (and some men) scrubbed, boiled and wrung clothes by hand — a daily chore that consumed hours.
