I guess a war, #dramatic on itself, always has events where the word dramatic is just not dramatic enough any more.
In this place in France, Oradour-sur-glane, in WOII, the Germans masacared a whole village and set if to fire.
The French decided to leave the village as it was as an eternal reminder. On some facades there is a little plate with the names of the persons that lived there and were killed, even babies.
